Anna & Chris – Winter Engagement in Little Italy

I’m quite a sight when bundled up for winter work. With snow boots, warm pants, fleece, ski jacket, gloves, and a wool hat (with a tassel) I look like an arctic explorer ready to take on polar bears. I do keep warm though, which is more than I can say for my clients. Anna and Chris wanted a great wintery look for their engagement photos, and we had a great plan. Due to the cold and wind, we would take a hot chocolate breaks every few minutes to warm up fingers and toes. At least, that was the plan.

The engagement session started off great. Working in Little Italy, we were still warm from being in the cars. Unfortunately, the warmth didn’t last long. After a few quick candid portraits, we had to duck back inside.

After the warm up, it was back outside for a little fun. Snow had fallen over night and there was a couple inches on the ground. A quick test of the snow proved it could hold a pack (some won’t, you know). It was time for a…. SNOW BALL FIGHT!

Time to warm up again. Thankfully the cars were still hot and we got a chance for some warmth as we moved over to Wade Park Lagoon, located just in front of the Cleveland Art Museum. Wade Lagoon is gorgeous year round and it has special meaning for Anna and Chris. Whenever possible, I try to incorporate important places into every engagement session.

Last but not least, we headed downtown for some photos inside Tower City and outside in front of the Christmas lights a Public Square. Below is just one of my favorites, a highlight of Anna’s engagement ring.

We don’t really stop for the weather around here. Winter dominates a quarter of the year and many clients want the amazing light and colors that come with winter. We tough out the cold and get great results. Some think we are just a little crazy. Personally, I love taking photos in winter. The light at morning and evening light is just to amazing, and it lasts forever during the winter.

That’s all for now, but I will be back soon with two fresh posts. One post featuring the best engagement photos of 2010 and another for the best wedding photos of 2010. I also have a couple more winter engagement sessions on deck. Take care, keep in touch and stay warm!

See y'all soon,
Hunter
