I am still surprised by “firsts” on a pretty regular basis. Certainly, my clients keep me on my toes. With Lindsey and Matthew, you just learn to expect a lot of firsts. To say they are exciting and dynamic would be an understatement. Their wedding at Elyria Country Club was not only beautiful, but a bunch of fun thanks to a surprising couple.
So let’s do a quick run down of the firsts -
- First wedding involving a mock getaway scene (see photos below)
- First couple to insist on funny and silly photos
- Best first wedding dance (not really a first, but a best worth mentioning)
- First time I have seen the “Evolution of Dance” performed live!
- First RickRoll at a wedding!
- First reveal at a wedding – more on this below
I work with the best people! Seriously, a RickRoll by Lindsey’s brother at a wedding. It was pure genius and an instant classic (OK, so maybe it only makes sense to me). At any rate, weddings are great fun with extraordinary people. Here are some of my favorite photos from the wedding day -
Speaking of “The Reveal”, I think bucking tradition is worth it for this idea. In essence, the bride and groom see each other for the first time before the ceremony. Typically, the wedding photographer is there to capture the moment, and this idea is all about the moment. The benefits go well beyond the photography, but we will save that discussion for another time. Here is a photo from Lindsey and Matthew’s reveal -
And then came the fake getaway. I don’t remember who had the idea, but it was good. One moment we are standing there taking wedding photos, and the next moment a golf cart is being “commandeered” from some poor golfer. I am really surprised no one got ran over by the cart!
The lighting was just dreamy for Lindsey and Matthew’s bridal portraits. The sun had just dipped below the horizon and most of the light was coming from the blue sky. This cools down the colors and creates a wonderful creamy light. It is just perfect for wedding portraits.
This last dancing shot was just fantastic. Apparently the scene you see above is a Polish wedding tradition. For me, it was just another first. A million thanks to Matthew and Lindsey for including me in such a wonderful wedding. It was a great way to bring the season nearly to a close.
