Sarah & John – A Westwood Country Club Wedding in Rocky River

Familiarity seems to be the antidote to nervousness. Still to this day, I get nervous before each wedding. Not because I feel unprepared, but because I always want to do my best. Somehow, nervousness never manifested itself before Sarah and John’s wedding at St. Christopher’s Church and Westwood Country Club. At first, it seemed like nothing in particular was different. There was no reason for the change.

Then it hit me, and quite a while after their wedding. I had become more familiar with Sarah and John than usual. I get to know all of my clients, but I had gotten to know Sarah and John a bit better. Despite the long distance between us, I felt I knew them all the more well. Maybe it was because we got along splendidly at their engagement session. Or because I had already met Sarah’s family well in advance. I think the real reason is all because of Sarah and John. They are the warmest people you could know. They are the type to make fast friends with anyone. To be near them is to feel welcomed.

That feeling carried through their entire wedding. Sarah and John’s friends and family are much the same – very warm and extremely welcoming. It certainly made for a wonderful day. Added to the wonderful people were some amazing locations. St. Christopher’s is a great place for a wedding. For Sarah, it was made all the more special by her uncle. Her uncle happens to be a priest and he happily completed their wedding. The reception, held at Westwood Country Club in Rocky River, was astonishing for many reasons.

It turned out to be the perfect place for the creative portraits. The golf course and club house make for some stunning scenery. Furthermore, Sarah’s design for the reception was spectacular. Flowers literally decked the tables, chairs and ceiling. Working with HeatherLily, Sarah’s floral design was filled with bright purples, soft pinks and pale whites. Flower arrangements were even hanging from the chandeliers. It was a sight to be seen.

To cap off the amazing day, we stepped outside after sunset for a few nighttime shots. The front portico made the perfect backdrop for a final portrait, despite the cars shuffling in the background. Admittedly, I had a really tough time choosing a few photos to highlight. Below is just a very small handful of my favorites, and way more than normal. Enjoy!

Lauren & James – A Westwood Country Club Wedding

The week ahead of their wedding at Westwood Country Club in Rocky River, Lauren and James were finalizing some last details. “What happens if there’s rain,” Lauren asked. I quickly checked the weather and it was looking better than before. “It looks like we won’t have rain until after we’re inside,” I replied. The forecast had been changing rapidly the week before their wedding. One day the forecast called for all rain, the next it was all clear.

By the day of Lauren and James’ wedding, the forecast was called for 100% awesome. Making the day even better were the locations and their friends. Lauren and James smartly chose to simplify the wedding schedule by also doing the portraits at Westwood Country Club. The day started with a private first look between Lauren and James. Just moments before the first look, James read a letter from Lauren, which got the emotions and tears started. After the emotional first look, we stepped out on the the golf course The bridal party portraits. I love the royal blue bridesmaids dresses and how they matched Lauren’s shoes. The groomsmen also looked so sharp in their gray tuxes.

The entire bridal party was amazing, starting with James’ father as best man. The ladies were also lovely. Each one was attentive to Lauren and so engaged in the ceremony. I love that Lauren and James privately shared communion during the ceremony.  I also love that the aisle way was lined with candles. And the confetti-filled send off of the couple from the ceremony was so much fun! Kicking the evening off was a wonderful cocktail hour on the patio under the setting sun.

Towards the end of the night, we even had a moment to sneak outside the club for just a few photos at sunset. It was the perfect cap to an amazing day. Below are just a few highlights to enjoy –

The last photo above is one of my favorites. This little guy partied like a rock star, and then burned out early. I almost felt the same way. Lastly, a huge thanks to Daniel at Westwood County Club! Your graciousness is beyond what I could expect or want.

Jodie & James – Rocky River Wedding at Westwood Country Club

Jodie, James and I sat down in a comfortable living room to discuss their wedding. The meeting was just a couple blocks from my house and I could have walked over. Jodie’s parents were practically my neighbors. Even their house number was only slightly different than my own. Strangely, it felt as though I was meeting with neighbors. I say strangely because Jodie and James live so far away. They were in town visiting from Boston, where they live. James is actually from much, much further away. By the end of the meeting, we had their wedding all planned out, I had met some new neighbors, and could not wait for April to roll around.

On their wedding day, we got just a little lucky. After days of brilliant sunshine, it began to look ominously like rain. OK, it doesn’t sound lucky, but it was. The rain, as it turns out, held off just for the wedding. Jodie and James are lucky as well. Across continents, they found each other. Jodie was living in Boston with roommate found through an ad. According to her roommate-now-maid-of-honor, dating was a little rocky. James was in Boston after emigrating from Ireland. Luckily their paths crossed. Before long, we were all gathered in a living room to plan a wedding.

A what a wedding it was! You see, James and Jodie are so very nice. They welcome everyone like family. They are the type to ask about your day and genuinely care about your answer. Their wedding was filled with friends and family who were equally as kind. To say the wedding felt like a neighborhood would be an understatement. Below are just a few favorites of mine Jodie and James’ neighborly wedding at Westwood Country Club –

I’m sometimes asked what I like most about weddings. It’s a toss up between a really good Best Man toast and the parents dances. I just love how proud parents are of their children. I have always strode to make my parents proud, so I certainly know the feeling. Because the pride is so easily seen during the parents dances, I end up sharing the dances again and again.

So that’s all for today. We will certainly have more coming soon, so check back often, or simply subscribe.
