Weekly Blog Round-Up

rss_logo

Not much this week regarding wedding photography, or Cleveland for that matter. I am also trying to decide how often to do a blog round-up. At most, it would be weekly. More than likely, it will be every couple weeks. If you have a preference, let me know. Also, leave a comment if you have a story, video, or inspiring images that deserve more air time.

But that is not an answer – David Hobby, of Strobist.com, finished his series on big lights this week. As you might recall, he has been doing a series of blog posts regarding his process for selecting a studio lighting system. So far, he has looked at Elinchrom and Profoto. This week he finishes with Alien Bees. However, in the end, he does not reveal his selection. Instead, he just says “I am still thinking about it.” Jeesh, what a cop out ;-)

Incidentally, I made my choice. While I love Alien Bees, I am in the process of selling mine and moving fully to Elinchrom. Love ‘em!

One Light Workshops – For those not familiar with Zack Arias, he is an Atlanta-base music photographer and he produces the One Light Workshop series. The series is highly acclaimed, as is Zack. Well, it looks like Zack has announced workshop dates for 2010. This year, workshops are being held in many more cities and even internationally (Brazil made the list, but Nigeria unfortunately did not). I was giggling like a school girl when I realized he was coming to a nearby city. I am definitely going.

Gear /= VisionDavid DuChemin recently released his new book Vision Mongers and it is getting some great press. After reading Within the Frame, I can understand why. David message is that vision trumps all gear and most other skills. He is an engaging writer and I am sure Vision Mongers is worth the read. Personally, I will be grabbing a copy soon.

Eric Ryan Anderson guest blogEric Anderson was Scott Kelby’s guest blogger this week and his article is great. Definitely well work the read. Eric shares information about how he got into commercial photography, how he is young and growing, and he shares ten basic lessons that are well worth the read. For some good inspiration, definitely look into Eric’s blog as well. Eric has a great eye and it is definitely worth the time to study his technique and learn from him.

So, that is what a theater degree is for – Blog aficionado Rachel Hulin is back this week (and still shaking off the triptophan) with a feature on Barry Underwood. According to Rachel, Barry has a degree in theater and photography. For some cool lighting tricks, check out Barry’s featured work on Rachel’s blog.

So that is it for the week. If you have any suggested blog articles, places to find great photography information, or just some inspiration, please pass it along.

See y'all soon,
Hunter
