This year has certainly been one of engagement sessions. The vast majority of my wedding clients choose to include a personalized engagement session. In addition, I’m often contacted by couples looking for stand-alone engagement sessions, typically due to out-of-town or destination weddings. So is the case for Sara and Ryan. It was just Kaye, her mother and I when we first met. We sat in my office and talked about their upcoming wedding at the Union Club in downtown Cleveland. We even started to discuss the engagement session. It was clear to Kaye that the session had to start at her family home along the lake shore in Lorain, Ohio. It seemed like a perfectly fitting place to me. Little did I know at the time just how amazing their home would be. More so, little did I know how awesome Kaye and Nathan would be together. Sarah and John found me first. The timing for our introduction was just right. We chatted via email and on the phone about their upcoming wedding in Cleveland. Sight unseen, they decided to book me. Admittedly, it was a little rushed because we were excited to work with each other and didn’t want to loose the opportunity. Flash forward a few weeks and we were meeting in person for the first time. Sarah and John were in their car, sitting in my drive way. I was packed and ready to, so we headed off for their engagement session. I think when John met Sarah the timing was just right as well.

When we met on the courthouse steps, we took a few minutes to shake off the nerves. It’s not unusual for couples to arrive a little nervous. Truth be told, I was a little nervous as well. Maybe nervous isn’t the word. “Amp’ed” might be the better term. After chatting for a few minutes, we calmed down a bit and got started. Normally, the first few photos don’t make the selection because the nerves show. This was not the case for Natalie and Sean’s engagement session in downtown Cleveland. As usual, I had over-packed. I was standing in the Lakeside parking lot trying to decide which camera I should bring with me. I had to bring the digital as a back-up camera, but which film camera should I bring? I knew I would be shooting film, but I just needed to decide how. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Renee and Cheney pull into the parking lot. It was time to go, so I just grabbed one camera and jumped into their car. Renee and Cheney had traveled from across the country for their destination engagement session at Lakeside, and what a perfect location it was.
