Windows on the River Wedding – Lisa & Dan

Comfort can be an amazing feeling. It gives you peace and makes everything that much easier. Especially on a wedding day, where stress can run high. For Lisa & Dan’s Windows on the River wedding, comfort seemed to abound. Like when Dan’s mother greeted me at her door. She immediately set me at ease and knew the plan. I’m always most at ease when there is a plan!

This story was very much the same for the rest of Lisa & Dan’s wedding at St. Bernadette’s Church in Westlake and Windows on the River in downtown Cleveland. All of their family and friends were relaxed and comfortable, ready for the excitement of the day to begin. By the time I reached Lisa’s family home that morning, all the bridesmaids were dressed and ready to go. Lisa was running a bit late at the salon, but no one was worried, especially me.

At the ceremony itself, the priest set a relaxed tone, encouraging laughter & happiness throughout the ceremony. Then the big moments came. Rings were exchanged, solemn vows given and an emotional kiss exchanged. If there was any stress, it evaporated in that moment.

What followed were breathtaking moments spent with friends and family. From portraits in the city to an amazing wedding reception set right in downtown Cleveland. The toasts were filled with laughter and love. Even a few tears were shed. And if I understand correctly, their amazing party went late into the night.

Speaking of night – Lisa, Dan, and I took a few minutes at the end of the night to capture a few photos set against the Cleveland skyline. I love these “end of night” photos, especially when we can catch the setting sun. Below are just a few highlights from Lisa & Dan’s beautiful wedding. I certainly hope you enjoy. For Lisa & Dan – I can’t thank you enough for having me as a small part of your wedding day. It’s been a thrill!

Brittany & Tony – A Loving Engagement at the Cleveland Museum of Art

I was standing on the dance floor at Lauren & Ben’s wedding when I heard my named called from behind. There was Brittany & Tony, whom I had just met a couple weeks prior. The timing seemed eerily fantastic, as their engagement session was just a few days away. Bumping into them at a wedding was certainly a welcome treat, and gave me a chance to give them an update.

Flash forward just a couple of days and we were meeting at the Cleveland Museum of Art for their all-film engagement session. But the session would not be limited to just the museum. Instead, we planned to wander around the museum and the Case Western Reserve University campus. I love the CWRU campus as a location because it offers some stunning architecture in varying styles. As we paced the campus, we chatted about how Brittany and Tony met each other and how they were engaged. After initially meeting at University of Dayton, Tony talked Brittany into joining his summer softball team. A decision he both loves and laments.

Tony loves that Brittany joined the softball team because that summer became the first stepping-stone in their relationship. He just might lament the decision a little, too. As we were wandering, a heated debate broke out between the three of us concerning softball. Apparently, at one game that summer, Brittany missed a critical play. As she tells it, another outfielder called for a pop fly, so she let the player have it. As Tony sees it, the other player was no where near the ball. So, the ball fell to the field. Regardless of who should have caught the ball, that summer proved beneficial for both Brittany and Tony.

Below are just a few highlights from their engagement session. I certainly hope you enjoy and we’ll be back soon with more.

Brittany & Phil – A Well-Documented Love Affair

After receiving Brittany’s email, I was left with a feeling of familiarity. Something about her message left me curious with a sense of Déjà vu. I started a quick hunt through my email archive and it didn’t take long to identify the familiar source. I had chatted with Brittany previously when she was planning her wedding. While I didn’t end up capturing her wedding, she had reached out to me once more to capture her first anniversary photos with, now husband, Phil.

I think Brittany & Phil have a truly brilliant plan for their life together. They intend to get professional photographs every year on or around their wedding anniversary. I’m thrilled just to be included as the first photographer in this plan. Honestly, my wife and I believe the same, but are rather lacking with our actual execution. Something tells me this won’t be the case for Brittany & Phil.

So why does this plan make so much sense to me? We say “love affair” when we speak of couples whose connection seems transient. Instead, I like to believe “love affair” should refer to life-long passions tied to your most dear partner. Rather than speaking of a transient connection, “love affair” should speak of deep, smoldering, lasting lives together. “Love affairs” should be the kind of relationship we tell out children about. It shouldn’t be transient or temporary, but instead documented and savored.

So here is a salute to Brittany & Phil’s well-documented love affair. I certainly hope you enjoy the little highlights below from this life well-lived – together.
