Erin & Dan – Downtown Cleveland Wedding at West 78th Street Studios

Normally April means never ending rain, clouds and temperatures that hover between cold or mildly tolerable. Strange enough, our spring of rebirth has been quite pretty. No late frosts knocking back the magnolias and plenty of sunshine. For Erin and Dan, our weather was a little ray of luck for their beautiful wedding. The day was beaming with sun and things could not have been more perfect.

The wedding itself was held at a rather new location in Cleveland – the West 78th Street Studios. Think of it like a vintage warehouse filled with some of the best art studios in the city, plus larger event spaces for weddings. Erin and Dan smartly scheduled the ceremony upstairs and reception downstairs to create a comfortable and cohesive experience for their guests.

What else is there to love about their wedding? I love how Erin and Dan gave each other matching love notes, completely by accident. I really enjoyed walking with Dan to the first look, where he saw his beautiful bride for the first time as she emerged from an elevator. Their friends were awesome, and the locations were once-in-a-lifetime perfect, like the Federal Reserve vault. We even got photos with Superman, but those are just for Erin and Dan.

Below are just a few highlights to enjoy. I do want to offer a special thanks to the team at Something New Entertainment. AJ and Justin made the entire night that much more special. Also, big thanks to Hilary Gent of smARTspace/Hedge for making sure everything ran tick-tock.

Based on those last couple shots, I think Erin and Dan both had a blast. That’s all for today. To Erin and Dan, thank you! For everyone else, we’ll be back with more. The wedding season is just getting started.

Julia & Evan – Spring Wedding at the Hyatt Arcade

“We’re not ready yet,” Elise said over the phone. “Can you start with the gentlemen?”

I answered “Of course and we’ll see you soon.” We headed up to room 346 at the Hyatt Arcade, where we found the gentlemen. I think the proper word in this case is definitely – gentlemen. They were dressed in unique tuxedos, each one a little different than the next. And these were proper tuxedos. James Bond tuxedos. Magazine cover tuxedos! Each of the four groomsmen looked perfect. Then there was Evan. He looked sharp and was ready for the big day. In fact, they all were ready.

Before long, the ladies were ready as well. Each bridesmaid wore a gorgeous dress in turquoise blue, outfitted with pockets. While they had matching dresses, each bridesmaid was also unique. Every bridesmaid had  a unique peep-toe shoe in pewter. All of them similar, but a little different. Of course Julia was beaming. Every time a lady whispered “Your getting married,” Julia broke out in a huge smile. She looked perfect as well. She was beautiful, as always. Her dress was…stunning. It was a ruffled soft white and riveted with stunning bead word. Her shoes matched her new turquoise earrings, a gift from Evan.

So what’s so special about Julia and Evan’s wedding? It starts with the people. The bridesmaids and groomsmen were an absolute joy. Each one happy and energetic. The colors were swoon-worthy. Julia’s choice of orange circus roses really popped against the blue dresses. Lastly, the first look shared by Julia and Evan just outside the Arcade was emotional and loving. Although no one cried, especially the photographer. Just saying.

It’s been and thrill to work with Julia, Evan, their friends and family. I know they are going to have an amazing honeymoon and an amazing future together. Hopefully, you enjoy the highlights below from this very special wedding.

Joanna & David – Hyatt Arcade Wedding in Downtown Cleveland

Internally, we had been preparing for Joanna and David’s wedding for weeks. Everything had to be perfect. We scouted the Hyatt Arcade in downtown Cleveland on multiple occasions. We went over the plan again and again. Finally the day had arrived, and what a day it was. While planning and scouting always has a place, nothing had prepared me for what was about to unfold. Start with amazing ladies making up the bridal party, add the most incredible “first look” I have seen, and top it off with one heck of a party! Oh, and throw in a dash of awesome parents.

Joanna and David really had something special going. And it all started with the first look. In fact, the first look was so amazing that it deserved an entirely separate post. I suggest you check it out. Beyond the first look, the wedding was centered around family and close friends. And I can understand why. David’s near-twin sisters were so sweet. Joanna’s sister and Maid of Honor is lovely. And their friends kept the whole group laughing and having fun. Heck, I think Michael made fast friends with David’s dad.

Even better was the location. The Hyatt Arcade is a mallway of sorts left over from the turn of the century. Featuring four floors and an atrium roof, it is completely decorated in bronze-painted wrought iron. To which Joanna and David added a smart, modern design. The whole place glowed warmly at night. My personal favorite was the table numbers, featuring photos from each year of their lives.

Once the festivities began, things really got crazy. The hora was amazing (and a little scary). A Soul-Train-esque dance line broke out and there was even a singing bride with a microphone. To say it was great fun would be an understatement.

We could feel the anticipation building, like lightning about to strike. We were all in our places, and for a moment, no one knew how to begin.

With anticipation let loose, love filled the air. Michael and I just stood there and captured it all. The real magic came from Joanna and David.

During the hora, I was almost as panic-stricken as Joanna. I think I almost dropped my camera twice, but we got the shot!
